NORTHGEORGE TAKES LEAD IN SUBARU CHAMPIONSHIP – BUT LADY IN WAITING
Northgeorge’s win was testament to his toughness and durability, for it was his 11th run of the season and his fourth success. When not winning he has invariably been placed, and is providing a “dream” for owner Steve Young, who runs a South Wales-based medical supplies business. He did not know trainer Jonathan Tudor before this season, but had heard he could train a horse and duly sent him Northgeorge. It has proved a wise choice, for Northgeorge won on the opening day of the season (November 29) and has been in good form since.
He is entered for Friday’s £10,000 Subaru Restricted Series Hunters’ Chase Final at Stratford – and points gained during that evening card will count towards the overall title. The owner of the horse who scores most points will be given the free lease of a Subaru Forester for 12 months – but Young has already decided that if he wins the keys will be given to Byron Moorcroft, who has ridden Northgeorge throughout the season. However, there could be a sting in the tail for the connections of both Northgeorge and Galros Lady.
Itchymei’mscratch, another South Wales-based horse, and trained by Gareth Moore for Keith James, also holds an entry in the Subaru Restricted Series Hunters’ Chase Final. If Galros Lady fails today, and neither she nor Northgeorge fail to reach the places at Stratford, then Itchymei’mscratch would take the title if winning the Final. The prospect of all three lining up would add an additional dash of spice to a race that looks hot on paper.
